How do you refinish our porcelain bathtub?

Home > FAQs > Our Process

When you let Ultimate Reglaze refinish your bathtub you will be getting the best quality reglazing work available, and materials of the highest quality. There are no shortcuts taken and we pay special attention to details.

Step 1: We remove the existing caulk from around the bathtub. If grout has been used instead of caulk this will be left untouched.

Step 2: A heavy duty ventilation system is set up and the fixture is then chemically cleaned and etched to create a profile that ensures complete bonding. This step is always followed by a light sanding to ensure that all residue has been removed.

Step 3: When possible we will remove the drain cover.

Step 4: Now it is time to repair any chips that exist using a special patching compound.

Step 5: We sand and blend the patched areas.

Step 6: We painstakingly mask off the entire tub area and surrounding floor.

Step 7: With these steps accomplished, we can now mix our 3 part chemical bonding agent that has been designed to bond to submersible surfaces. Also, at this time the top glaze coat is mixed. Like the bonding agent, there are three components that make up the glaze.

Step 8: We tack-cloth and smooth out the bathtub or fixture to remove any and all dust.

Step 9: We spray 2-3 coats of bonding agent.

Step 10: After allowing the bonding agent to tack dry. Two coats of topcoat will be applied. The end result will be a shiny and beautiful bathtub, ready to serve you and your family for years to come.

The actual details of the above work are slightly more involved but we hope this can give you some idea about what is happening with the refinishing of your bathtub! Please contact us for more details.
